This article shows me, as I suspected, it goes into the pockets of the overpaid who do not give value for money.
Some years ago I had need to contact the NMC, very difficult to do this - telephone numbers no longer in use, emails bounced back address not recognised, in the end I sent a letter, I am still waiting for a reply.
I would be interested to know how many people are employed by the NMC and what they actually do. My assumption is in the past the UKCC, pre computers, would keep nurses details in good old hand written ledgers therefore many people with excellent hand writing skills would be required to keep the ledgers up to date. In these modern computerised times when all our details are found with a few clicks of a mouse then surly a much smaller work force is required and as a result nursing fees should be reduced!
When my next registration is due, I shall not be renewing it. After 30 plus years, in a profession I love, I will be hanging up my sphygmomanometer, stethoscope and thermometer. I do not have faith nor do I trust our governing body. The NMC should be fighting for the survival of nursing and the NHS. Good bye fellow nurses, I wish you all a great future.
A disheartened male nurse.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472195123181771417.post-27507483874552282072017-10-19T12:12:40.318+00:002017-10-19T12:12:40.318+00:00great article Drew, money for nothing..... is thi...great article Drew, money for nothing..... is this to be published in the press anywhere? I think it should be front page, guardian, herald my part of the world, the NMC have produced more obstacles for nurses than lord of the rings. I was once a nurse lecturer, I am particularly appauled by the numbers struck off and the main role of NMC in harsh punishment/sanctions. Pls can I have ur references for this article. my e-mail is gvnthompson66@gmail.com many thanks in anticipationAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04940470975343114472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472195123181771417.post-40049552313309174292017-10-18T20:03:33.060+00:002017-10-18T20:03:33.060+00:00Just resigned my registration as it is far too c...Just resigned my registration as it is far too complicated to get all the evidence required when working as a temporary bank nurse. The whole process of re-registration is too complicated, I worked hard for my qualification and worked in senior roles for 40 years, I am not sorry to go, the standards are so poor now in new nurses, universities just pass them so that they get their bums on seats quotas. What other degree allows you to keep on rewriting your course work until it is an acceptable standard! I am a midwife and I know I speak for many other midwives when I say we are horrified at what has been done to our profession in the last 1-2 years at the hands of the NMC. We have effectively lost our professional identity. All registrants know their obligations under the code and I'm sure almost all at some time (probably most of the time) have felt the unbearable pressure of maintaining professional accountability while trying to meet the impossible demands placed on us by our employer. This is what drives nurses and midwives away from their profession. What do the NMC do to support us or protect the public from the mistakes we might make as a result of working like this? Nothing. Like you say, I pay my fees because I have to, yet I have absolutely no say in how my profession is regulated by this body.
